Wellness

Wellness

Long before the term was discovered, wellness in Bhutan has always taken a holistic approach. It goes beyond the physical and combines every aspect of the human being, restoring balance between the body, mind, and spirit. Ancient healing traditions, soothing herbal rituals, silence, and mindful movements create an experience that will make you feel lighter, clearer, and deeply renewed.

The University of Traditional Medicine in Thimphu offers a 6-year education to a very small and selective group of students. We can arrange for an introductory talk about Traditional Medicine and meetings with some traditional medicine doctors.

Traditional Bhutanese Medicine is 100% herbal based; over 100 different herbs are used to create creams, oils, and teas. We can arrange for an introduction about healing herbs and an exploratory herbal walk.

During the treatment, moxa sticks are lit and gently held near the skin, allowing soothing warmth to penetrate the muscles and meridians.
This gentle heat provides immediate relief from pain, reduces tension, and supports the body’s natural healing process.

Explanation about meditation in Bhutan

The hot stone herbal bath is one of the traditional healing treatments in Bhutan. In this traditional healing practice, you immerse yourself in fresh mountain water, gently heated by hot river stones. To enhance the therapeutic effects, Artemisia herbs are added to the bath. The combination of warm water and medicinal herbs helps relax stiff muscles, improve blood circulation, and soothe skin-related conditions. During your journey, you will have the experience at least once. We recommend taking it after the Tiger’s Nest hike, to prevent muscle pain the next day.

The bowls have a profound positive impact, helping to realign your chakras and restore balance in your energy channels. This chakra healing not only cleanses and balances the energies in your channels but also promotes inner peace, calms the mind, and supports improved sleep.

Hot oil compression is especially beneficial for de-stressing, improving sleep, and promoting overall relaxation of the body and mind.
A traditional herbal compression made from nutmeg and wild caraway seeds is wrapped in cloth, gently heated with sesame oil, and applied only to the head region.
The warm compress targets specific pressure points, helping to soothe tension, enhance circulation, and restore balance in the head.

As soon as you leave the plane and set foot in Bhutan, you will experience the sensation of clean and fresh air. With over 60% of the country covered by forest, the air you breathe is healing. Make sure to plan a short hike or walk every day, to enjoy the benefits of clean air.

Clean air, being surrounded by nature, the absence of light and noise pollution, will all contribute to a good night’s sleep. But we have more….

During your journey, you will have a personal consultation with a Traditional Medicine Doctor. A unique and enriching experience.
Before the consultation, the Medicine Buddha is invoked, and sacred mantras are recited, allowing our doctors to serve as a channel for the healing energy of the Medicine Buddha. The consultation focuses on the interconnection between body, mind, and spirit.
